The Macao Catholic Culture Association (ACCM) said in a statement yesterday that it has launched a VR360 online exhibition for “The Eucharistic Miracles of the World” International Exhibition”.

VR stands for virtual reality. The physical exhibition originally ended on September 30, with the statement noting that it was “very well received” and attracted over 2,000 visitors and 40 groups of guided tours.

The statement underlined that this is the first time that the association is incorporating VR360 technology to make the exhibition accessible to everyone worldwide. Available in Chinese and English, high-definition images can be viewed by clicking on the icon of each exhibit. Members of the public, the statement said, can have an interactive 360-degree online experience “anytime, anywhere, and without the restraints dictated by the [COVID-19] pandemic”.

A guided tour video produced by the association in Cantonese is also available, the statement added.

The Eucharistic miracles, according to the statement, are among the most studied topics by scholars and scientists worldwide. The exhibition presents 17 Eucharistic miracles in the world. The Church-approved photographic Vatican International Exhibition, which was curated by “Blessed Carlo Acutis”, has been translated into 17 languages and presented globally, “featuring the Eucharistic miracles that have taken place over the centuries in different countries and which the Church recognises”.

It was curated by Carlo Acutis, who “was an English-born Italian Catholic youth and amateur computer programmer best known for documenting Eucharistic miracles around the world and cataloguing them onto a website which he created” before dying from leukaemia, according to Wikipedia. He was born in 1991 and died in 2006.
