A cardboard box left on the pavement opposite Rua do Barão in Praia do Manduco (Ha Van) district caught fire in the wee hours of yesterday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement.
According to the statement, a resident informed the Fire Services Bureau (CB) about a cardboard box full of junk that was burning in the neighbourhood. The resident put out the fire with a bucket of water.
The statement said that firefighters considered the blaze suspicious and reported the case to the Judiciary Police, after which police officers searched the burnt box at the scene and found several cigarette ends nearby. The case has been transferred to the arson section of the Judiciary Police.
No one was injured in the incident.
