The 39th “Macau Walk for a Million”, organised by the Charity Fund from the Readers of Macao Daily News, will be held on December 12.

Charity Fund President Ho Teng Iat said yesterday that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the safety of the general public, the association has decided to continue to hold this year’s charity walk online. However, Ho added, in response to people’s desire to take part in a physical walk, a “limited-scale” offline physical walk has tentatively been scheduled for that day, subject to meeting the government’s COVID-19 prevention and control measures and obtaining permission from the authorities.

Ho made the remarks during a press conference at Ka Nin Wa Restaurant on Rua de Pedro Coutinho.

According to the organisers, the offline walk, which will start on Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen near the Statue of Guanyin, will be limited to 20,000 to 25,000 participants who all must have at least received three jabs of COVID-19 vaccination. The organisers underlined that schools can only send secondary school students to participate in the walk, while each gaming operator team will be limited to 1,500 to 2,000 participants.

There are six gaming operators in Macau.

The organisers said that the association will start receiving donations from today, adding that all the funds will be used for public welfare assistance, while the daily administrative expenses, such as the preparation of the walk, will be shared between the board members of the association.

The Chinese-language Macao Daily News is Macau’s top-selling newspaper.
