For the safety of the general public and volunteers amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the 19th Charitable Sale and Flag Selling Day, organised by the Fuhong Society of Macau, has started online, the organisers said during a press conference at the social welfare organisation’s Pou Lei Centre on Avenida Norte do Hipódromo yesterday.

According to the press conference, its first-ever online fundraising campaign has been launched to receive donations from now until the end of this year.

The organisers noted that with the theme of “colour” this year, eight different colour elements are introduced to this year’s charitable sale, allowing people to connect with their personal moods through colours, guide positive emotions, and enhance their “psychological immunity.”

The goal of this year’s campaign is to sell 100,000 facemasks and 20,000 pairs of socks, which were designed by mentally disabled, autistic and mentally recovered artists. Both products belong to the “Wonderful & Colourful” series, the organisers said, who pointed out that all funds will be used to support the association in developing services for the disabled.

The organisers noted that the COVID-19 pandemic is having a “severe” impact on Macau’s economy and that donations to social service institutions have been greatly affected. Consequently, the organisers added, the number of work orders for the disabled has been “significantly” decreased, which “directly affected” the income of Fuhong’s service users and the development of self-funded projects.

The organisers said they hoped that through the sales campaign they could ensure the continuation of various projects for the disabled, in order to respond to the needs of the community.

The organisers also said the association hoped that there would be “sufficient resources” to continuously develop new business opportunities to provide jobs for the disabled, adding that a new project involving catering was under preparation and expected to be launched early next year.

Orders and enquiries can be made by calling 2822 0330.
