A rodent eradication project continued in Rua de Silva Mendes yesterday after about 50 rats were spotted in the area following residents’ concerns that there may be an infestation.
The Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement on Tuesday that following reports by residents and the media about the infestation of rats in that area, the bureau and the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) ran a pest control inspection and spotted about 50 rats lurking in the back alley behind Rua de Silva Mendes.
The statement said that a metal gate closed off the back alley and that there was a huge crack between the wall and the ground, which allowed the rats to hide in there.
