A former salesman has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for stealing five skincare products worth 2,500 patacas from the shop where he had worked, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said in a regular press conference on Friday.

The spokesperson said that the local suspect, surnamed Lam, is in his thirties.

The police received a report from a shop manager last Tuesday that three skincare products were found to be missing during an inventory, adding that after checking the shop’s CCTV footage, the manager suspected that the products were stolen by Lam who had quit his job after working for a year and a half in the shop, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that PSP officers intercepted Lam, who admitted that he had stolen the products from the shelves out of greed by putting them in his bag when he finished work on the evening of the first day of this month, adding as he worried that the theft would be discovered he had taken two of the products back to the shop last Tuesday and then resigned.

However, the spokesperson added, he claimed to have forgotten that there were still three other items in his motorbike seat storage box.

The police recovered the remaining stolen items from Lam’s motorbike, the spokesperson noted, pointing out that Lam has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office, facing an abuse-of-trust charge.
