Local artist Leong Man Ting is presenting her work in a solo exhibition entitled “Prêt à Porter” at the Art For All Society (AFA) gallery, with exploring the artist’s life experiences as its theme.
The French title of the exhibition means “ready-to-wear”.
The exhibition, according to the statement, is the first part of AFA’s annual project titled “Deconstructing the Construct” – Plastic Arts Exhibition Series, which invites two post-eighties female artists of similar age to take part in two different solo exhibitions.
The statement noted that the exhibition theme explores the artist’s life experiences that range from “the confusion of growing up as a woman to her reflections on the current society and future after becoming a mother.”
Moreover, it also explores how Leong “transforms from ‘existing’ experiences to the ‘becoming’ process of creation.”
The statement underlined that Leong, who is a painter and fashion designer, uses her cat as a model and has created a series of paintings “with a unique style and form” over the years, also integrating her fashion design elements.
Some of the works featured are Leong’s paintings from 2015-2020 showing a cat-headed woman, as well as works where she, in recent years, has utilised medical supplies and mirrors.
Leong currently lives in China’s Taiwan region and is in the third year of her PhD studies in Creative Theory at the Taiwan Normal University’s Department of Fine Arts, the statement said.
The exhibition runs until December 8 and is open daily except Sundays and public holidays from 11 p.m. to 7 p.m. For detailed descriptions of the works, visit https://www.afamacau.com/ .
