The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) set up a memorial on the second floor of its headquarters on Avenida do Doutor Rodrigo Rodrigues for people from all walks of life in Macau to mourn the passing of the nation’s Comrade Jiang Zemin, according to a statement by the Liaison Office yesterday.
The statement noted that the memorial is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Anyone wishing to pay their respects at the Liaison Office must make an appointment by calling 8882 1604.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the daily number of visitors will be limited, the statement said, adding that if people cannot arrange on-site condolences, they may send a message, letter or fax of condolences to the Liaison Office to express their sympathies, which the office will forward to the relevant departments in a timely manner.

In view of the current COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures, visitors will be required to present a negative result for their rapid antigen test (RAT) on the day or a 24-hour validated nucleic acid test (NAT) result after sampling, show their Macau health code after scanning the venue QR code at the memorial site, undergo a temperature check, and wear a KN95 facemask at all times when they visit the memorial, the statement noted.
A statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said that Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee Vice Chairman Edmund Ho Hau Wah, the director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR, Zheng Xincong, as well as the deputy directors of the office, Huang Liuquan and Yan Zhichan attended the memorial yesterday morning. Edmund Ho was the first chief executive of the MSAR between December 1999 and December 2009. The MSAR’s second chief executive, Fernando Chui Sai On, also attended the memorial. Among others who paid tribute to the former president and Communist Party of China (CPC) general secretary at the memorial yesterday morning were Acting Foreign Ministry Commissioner Wang Dong, People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Macau Garrison Commander Xu Liangcai, Legislative Assembly (AL) President Kou Hoi In, and Court of Final Appeal (TUI) President Sam Hou Fai. They all bowed three times in front of a large portrait of Jiang.
