A three-person sketch exhibition titled “Art on the Corner” is currently showcasing 26 drawings by a trio of local artists at 10 Fantasia gallery, which is located in São Lázaro district.
A recent statement from the gallery noted that sketching is helpful for the “cultivation of observation and aesthetics”, as well as being an “tool of expression” that factors in documentation and creativity. The three artists showcasing their sketches comprise Chu Pui Cheng, Mac Tac Tim and Ho Wan Leng.
Chu, the statement noted, graduated from Macao Polytechnic Institute’s (now known as Macao Polytechnic University) Higher School of Visual Arts with a major in education in 2005. Her initial work was mainly oil paintings of flowers, and she started sketching outdoors after joining the Society of Urban Sketchers Macao and the Macau Artists Association in 2019.
The statement added that Mac, a civil servant, developed a “strong interest” in painting when he was young. He first learnt ink and wash painting before moving on to other methods including pencil drawing, charcoal and watercolour painting.
Meanwhile, Ho has been engaged in design work for a number of years and joined the Macau Urban Sketchers Association in 2017, the statement said. The statement noted that her understanding and enthusiasm for painting were deepened by the association’s activities and exchanges.
The works, which are displayed in the gallery’s Room B07, are on display until December 30, with the exhibition being open daily, except Mondays, from 11 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
