Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On will extend the appointment of Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) Director Fong Soi Kun for another year, starting from November 1, according to yesterday’s Official Gazette (BO).
The decision to extend Fong’s appointment was based on his professional experience and good management skills, according to the gazette.
Fong’s decision not to hoist the No. 8 typhoon signal when Typhoon Nida was approaching the Pearl River Delta early last month was widely criticised by the public.
