Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced today that two more elderly people died of COVID-19 yesterday, raising the city's novel coronavirus death toll to 9.
Both were not vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to a statement by the centre, both victims - a female aged 74 and a male aged 83 – had suffered from various underlying diseases.
The female victim had suffered from diabetes, chronic renal insufficiency, and hepatic hemangioma She suffered multiple organ failure during hospitalisation, and she died yesterday evening.
The male victim had suffered from hypertension and chronic renal insufficiency. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday and came down with respiratory failure and pneumonia during isolation treatment on Thursday. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he passed last night.
The centre' statement reminded the public again to be vaccinated against COVID-19, as inoculation reduces the risk of infection, severe illness and death. It urged all those who have already been vaccinated twice to get their two booster jabs as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the centre said in a separate statement that 43 new COVID-19 patients were admitted to the Health Bureau's isolation and treatment facilities yesterday.
As of this morning, Macau's official COVID-19 tally (excluding asymptomatic cases) stood at 1,363 including nine fatalities.
Macau confirmed its first novel coronavirus case in January 2020. The government has recently begun to ease its COVID-19 curbs.
