Macau's official COVID-19 death toll has risen by two to 11, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced this morning.
According to a statement by the centre, both female patients, aged 36 and 86 respectively, passed away yesterday. Both had not been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.
The 36-year-old victim had suffered several underlying diseases, such as malignant glioma and secondary epilepsy. She had tested positive for COVID-19 on December 9 and came down with a lung infection last Monday. Her condition began to deteriorate further on Friday.
The 86-year-old victim had suffered from several underlying diseases as well, such as high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, atrial fibrillation and heart failure. She had tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. She died during isolation treatment after developing acute heart failure.
Meanwhile, according to this morning's statement, 64 new patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were admitted to the Health Bureau's (SSM) isolation and treatment facilities yesterday.
According to SSM statistics, Macau's total COVID-19 tally since January 22, 2020, when the city's first novel coronavirus case was confirmed, stood at 1,427 this morning, of which 854 patients had meanwhile been cured.
As of Thursday, 654,993 people in Macau had been vaccinated against COVID-19. The vaccination tally is updated every Thursday at 9 a.m.
Macau's population stood at 671,900 at the end of the third quarter of this year, according to official demographics.
