In an ongoing collaboration between CinemathequePassion and “HiShorts! Xiamen Short Film Week”, a series of local short films are being shown to mainland audiences between December 12 and 31, according to a statement by the arthouse.

The statement said that the annual festival calls for thousands of short films from 70 countries and regions around the world for young directors to showcase their works.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), who is supporting the local cinema’s collaboration, hopes that the film festival can promote local directors and their films outside Macau so that they can broaden their horizons and further develop the local film industry, the statement said.

Cinematheque·Passion is presenting eight outstanding works from young local directors in “HiShorts!” The selection includes the winner of the “‘On The Road’ Macao Youth Film Festival”, for the best short “Sea” by Chan Chon Sin which was held at Cinematheque • Passion on Travessa da Paixão near the Ruins of St Paul’s on September 9.

The Macau Post Daily published an interview with Chan and his team in September. During the interview, Chan and his team noted that their film was about a young man who was struggling with the feeling of desolation on an island, exploring themes such as loneliness, relationships, liberty, and risk.

The statement noted that “Sea” has been shortlisted for the “Best Short” competition in “HiShorts!”
