According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre tonight, 64 new COVID-19 patients were admitted to the Health Bureau's isolation and treatment facilities yesterday.
One more person died of COVID-19 yesterday, an 79-year-old male who had suffered from underlying diseases. He had not been vaccinated against the virus. Macau's COVID-19 death toll rose to 18 yesterday.
The centre said in a separate statement tonight that from 00H00 tomorrow Macau's COVID-19-related entry restrictions for arrivals from the Chinese regions of Hong Kong and Taiwan as well as foreign countries will be further relaxed. From tomorrow, the arrivals only need to show their nucleic acid test (NAT) result valid for 72 hours when boarding a Macau-bound plane, vessel or vehicle. Starting from the day after arriving here, they need to undergo a rapid antigen test (RAT), aka self-test, for five consecutive days and upload them daily to a dedicated website for the Health Bureau. Those testing positive need to isolate at home.
Meanwhile, according to a statement by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) today, Macau's current primary and secondary school holiday has been extended from January 3 to January 9, in response to the current COVID-19 wave after the government relaxed its pandemic prevention and control measures earlier this month.
According to Health Bureau data, Macau's COVID-19 tally stood at 1,774 earlier today.
