Local gallery Ox Warehouse is presenting the work of artist Lin Linfeng in an exhibition titled 3+0/0+0 Artist-in-Residence Programme: Corporality·Macao, at the Mong-Ha Villas in Avenida do Coronel Mesquita.

According to a recent statement from the organisers, the exhibition is curated by Tsai Shih-Wei, who has a PhD from the Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 in Lyon, France, and is a planner and curator of Shuilin Arts Centre.

The statement noted that Lin, who currently lives and works in Fujian province’s capital Fuzhou, used Macau as a point of his creations and a place “where he draws sustenance from”. The statement said that the artist believes that a tomb is a place of rebirth in terms of belief and creation, which was the “spiritual foundation” of his artist-in-residence programme.

The statement added that Robert Morrison (1782-1834), an Anglo-Scottish Protestant missionary, pioneering sinologist, lexicographer, and translator considered the ‘Father of Anglo-Chinese Literature’, was Lin’s “point of loop and spiritual symbol”. He is buried in Macau.

The dead are brought back to life through art, the statement said, while past deeds are also unveiled. Art has also become a major medium so that art and religion are reconnected again, the statement noted.

Lin studied in France and has a PhD from the China Academy of Art. The statement added that he is a lecturer at Fujian Normal University’s (FJNU) College of Fine Arts and director of G-Lake Art Gallery. His main exhibitions include Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale (2021) and  Partage de Midi (2020).

The exhibition runs until Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. More information can be found by visiting the Ox Warehouse Facebook page, the @oxwarehouse Instagram page, or emailing oxwarehouse@gmail.com for enquiries.
