Gaming concessionaire SJM Resorts said in a statement yesterday that its wholly owned subsidiary Macau Dredging Services Limited has been awarded the government’s concession for the provision of dredging and maintenance services of Macau’s public waterways and harbour basins.

The statement said that according to the agreement signed with the local government, “Macau Dredging will provide services in the areas designated by the government to meet annual dredging volume requirements.”

The statement said that the five-year agreement will take effect on Sunday and expire on December 31, 2027.

The statement noted that together with its parent company STDM, SJM has accumulated nearly 60- years of experience in dredging Macau’s fairways. The statement pointed out that Macau Dredging owns 27 dredges, barges, tugboats and auxiliary vessels, employing over 160 dredging specialists.

The statement did not elaborate on the agreement, nor did it say when it was signed.

The statement quoted SJM Resorts Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung as saying that “the successful bid is a formal confirmation of SJM’s commitment to supporting Macau’s sustainable development,” adding: “We are very pleased to continue to undertake this important task and make positive contributions to Macau’s economic and urban development.”

The statement noted that the Macau government launched a tender for the dredging services in August this year, which Macau Dredging won.
