Macau’s first-ever citywide “Consumption Carnival” has generated 880 million patacas in spending with more than 23,000 businesses participating since its launch in October, the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) announced in a statement yesterday.

As of last Wednesday, a total of 51.45 million patacas in e-coupons had been distributed during the activity, of which 45.48 million patacas worth of e-coupons had already been spent.

According to the statement, those who have real-name authentication of their electronic wallet and spent at least 68 patacas in a single amount after deducting e-consumption vouchers, living allowances or discounts, in local offline shops, can take part in a lucky draw for e-coupons, which will be automatically applied to their next payment within 15 days.

The statement said that participants will also be automatically entered into a final lucky draw at the end of the event, with a wide range of prizes including cash prizes worth up to 1 million patacas in cash, food and staycations.

The consumption promotion activity, which will last four months, co-organised by the bureau and the Macau Chamber of Commerce (ACM – popularly known as Chung Chung), aims to attract consumers to spend in the local market, so as to increase business turnover, maintain consumption momentum and expand domestic demand, thereby strengthening retailers’ confidence in boosting their business, the statement said.
