A non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland was arrested for stealing three casino chips he found in a radio taxi, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said during a press conference yesterday.
Leong said that the 21-year-old suspect surnamed Li is a construction worker. The person who lost the chips is a mainland male tourist in his thirties.
According to Leong, the victim reported to the police on Sunday that earlier that day the three casino chips worth HK$100,000 each had vanished after he got out of a radio taxi in Fai Chi Kei district. Police officers scrutinised CCTV footage from the taxi and identified a passenger, Li, who they assumed to have taken the casino chips later that day from the cab.
Li was arrested on Monday when he entered Macau via Qingmao checkpoint. He admitted stealing the chips out of greed.
Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing theft-by-finding charges, Leong said.
