Resort operator Sands China said in a statement this week that it recently concluded a successful Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Month, with over 7,500 staff participating in the campaign, which took place from November 7 to December 7.

The statement noted that staff took part in various activities and initiatives to raise OSH awareness in the annual campaign. The staff also learnt about the importance of making sport and exercise a regular habit and a good diet’s role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, in addition to gaining OSH knowledge and skills.

Several new initiatives, according to the statement, were also launched during this year’s OSH month. These include the red, yellow, and green “traffic light” food and beverage labelling at staff restaurants to encourage healthy eating and a balanced diet; Playing videos produced with Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and its Alumni Association that encourage simple aerobics, stretching exercises and other healthy habits on back-of-house TVs; and aerobics flash mobs.

There was also a contest where staff learnt more about OSH and created slogans to raise awareness, the statement added. Other activities were back-of-house OSH roadshows that offered health checks and consultations, game booths, and health products for sale; and seminars on topics such as acupuncture and heart health.

The statement said that the company also presented its annual OSH Awards, which “recognise departments that have demonstrated excellence in occupational safety and health”.

The awards, the statement noted, were established in 2020 as the first-of-their kind among Macau’s integrated resort operators, aiming to promote OSH to its staff through the company’s learning and communication platform.

The statement quoted Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai as saying that “with our annual OSH Month, we continuously develop new initiatives to share knowledge that positively impacts team members’ safety and health not only at work, but in their home lives as well.”
