The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement yesterday that it will launch a string of promotional initiatives and special offers for Hong Kong residents, including one on transportation services between Hong Kong and Macau slated to start on Friday.

MGTO, the statement noted, has partnered with several Hong Kong-Macau transportation services to launch buy-one-get-one-free offers for Hong Kong residents with free return tickets to use on another day upon purchasing a shuttle bus or ferry ticket to Macau from Friday to March 31.

The statement said that the offer aims to encourage visitors to stay overnight and longer in the city. The service operators with the special offer include Hong Kong – Macao Express, TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet, with more companies expected to join successively.

The statement added that as land and sea transport services resume operations between the two special administrative regions (SARs), 24-hour border crossing has been restored at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) checkpoint. The HZMB’s Border Checkpoint Building’s East Car Park has also resumed operations, offering free parking for Hong Kong visitors driving to the city.

Travellers from Hong Kong, which was Macau’s second-largest visitors source market prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, are “expected to invigorate the local tourism industry”, according to the statement.

In the last pre-pandemic month of December 2019, mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 67.9 percent and 21.2 percent of Macau’s 3.08 million visitor arrivals respectively.

In December 2019, Macau’s daily average of visitor arrivals stood at 102,780, according to Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) data.

The “preferential measures”, the statement pointed out, as well as the online and offline promotional campaign, upcoming special offers and mega-events for the Chinese New Year (CNY) will encourage Hong Kong residents to travel and spend in Macau.

Moreover, the statement added that MGTO will launch new promotional videos online and offline to welcome visitors from Hong Kong, as well as showcase festivals, events and monthly highlights.
