A local man has been arrested for refusing to stop at a police roadblock and jumping three traffic lights during a car chase, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a press conference yesterday.
Lai said that the suspect surnamed Ku is in his twenties.
According to Lai, Ku refused to stop at the roadblock in Rua das Lorchas about 2 a.m. on Sunday after police officers had signalled him to pull over, adding that Ku immediately crossed into the opposite lane and sped away from the roadblock.
Ku then drove to numerous locations in the peninsula and crossed to Taipa via Sai Van Bridge, while PSP officers making use of their CCTV city-wide camera system, saw Ku jumping three sets of traffic lights during the chase and eventually located Ku’s car in a residential building’s car park on Estrada Coronel Nicolau de Mesquita later that day. Ku was not at the scene.
Ku was arrested in Rua da Palmeira in the afternoon. He told the police that he was afraid of being caught without a licence and thus had sped away to evade police questioning. Ku added that the car was borrowed from a friend.
Ku has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he faces charges of aggravated disobedience and dangerous driving, Lai said.
