The Transport Bureau (DSAT) said in a statement yesterday that as the government’s COVID-19 prevention and control measures have entered a new phase, the bureau, in coordination with other government entities and the MACAU Pass company, will terminate its “bus passenger real name registration scheme” from February 10, when all MACAU Pass holders will enjoy travel discounts.

Considering the need of MACAU Pass holders to report lost cards, the statement pointed out, the personal data of the “bus passenger real name registration scheme” will be erased on May 10, three months after the termination of the scheme.

MACAU Pass holders may register their personal data with MACAU Pass during the three-month interim period to continue to use the loss-reporting function based on their personal needs, according to the statement.

The government launched the “bus passenger real name registration scheme” in November 2021 because of the need to track passengers who caught the same public buses as confirmed COVID-19 infectees, the statement noted, which added that during this period, more than 590,000 MACAU Pass accounts were registered, with over 600,000 MACAU Pass cards activated.
