The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a recent statement that the first phase of “Visiting the Ruins St. Paul’s in Space and Time” – Exhibition of Virtual Reality at the Ruins of St. Paul’s will be extended through February 28 with additional sessions.

Located at the Ruins of St. Paul’s College, the schedule has been adjusted to three sessions per hour, with each open to 10 participants, according to the statement.

The statement noted that the exhibition, which presents a digital reconstruction of the church and enables the public to explore the college’s historical landscape 400 years ago, is the first to feature “advanced simulation technologies” including autostereoscopy, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) at a Macau World Heritage site.

Wikipedia defines autostereoscopy (aka glasses-free 3D) as “any method of displaying stereoscopic images without the use of special headgear, glasses, something that affects vision, or anything for eyes on the part of the viewer”.

The statement added that during the exhibition’s first phase, admission is free for members of the public by registration. Users must be aged five or above, with those under 12 to be accompanied by an adult to visit the exhibition.

Registration can be done at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event. A lucky draw will be held if applicants are unsuccessful, with those who are successful to be notified via SMS, the statement said.

Participants must arrive at the Ruins of St. Paul’s information desk 10 minutes before the session starts, while latecomers will be refused entry and replaced by those waiting on site.

The exhibition is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (no admission after 5:30 p.m.), including public holidays. Advanced registration is required.

Moreover, a WeChat game themed “Request from the Priest” has also been launched, with prizes available. For more details about the game and exhibition, visit www.wh.mo/stpaulvr.
