Gaming resort operator MGM said in a statement yesterday that its Golden Lion Volunteer Team organised a string of Chinese New Year (CNY) festivities for seniors, continuing its philanthropic tradition to send them CNY wishes for the 12th consecutive year.

The statement noted that these included the Mong Ha Elderly Centre of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), known as Gung Luen in Cantonese, the Day Centre “Prazer para Idosos” (“Pleasure for the Elderly”) of the Women’s General Association of Macau, known as Fu Luen in Cantonese, Centro de Serviços Completos para Idosos (“Complete Services Centre for the Elderly”) Cheng I of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macao (UGAMM), known as Kai Fong in Cantonese, Centro de Dia Brilho da Vida (“Brightness of Life Day Care Centre”) of Caritas Macau, and the Tung Sin Tong Elderly Activity Centre.
The statement said that the volunteers held activities such as lion dance performances, singing shows and mini-games for over 350 seniors during the visits.
MGM also gave gift bags packed by the Fuhong Society of Macau containing Tung Sin Tong Pharmacy’s soup packets, MGM’s Fai Chun (traditional Chinese couplets) and a dementia information booklet, among others.
MGM, the statement added, worked with a local small- and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs) cleaning company to conduct spring cleaning at the elderly centres for the third consecutive year.
Escola Tong Sin Tong high school students were also invited by MGM to write over 100 couplets to send their best wishes to the elderly. Macau Chinese Medicine Association’s traditional Chinese medicine practitioners were also invited to share health information, the statement said.

The event benefitted over 150 seniors, the statement said.
