Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng met yesterday with the convenor of the Hong Kong Executive Council and member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, at Macau Government Headquarters to exchange views on further enhancing cooperation between Hong Kong and Macau and promoting the development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Guangdong Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said.
During the meeting, Ho introduced the local Administration’s policies on the overall direction of governance, the city’s social security system, “housing ladder” policy, support for youth entrepreneurship and environmental protection, as well as briefing Ip on Macau’s experience in the prevention of and fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and economic assistance measures over the past three years, the statement said.
Ip said, according to the statement, that she had not been able to visit Macau for three years during the pandemic. She stressed that Macau’s tourism industry has been able to recover rapidly after the pandemic became endemic here.
Ip also said she hoped to learn from Macau’s successful experience, and also hoped to strengthen cooperation in tourism, economic development, education and technology in the future, according to the statement.
Ip, 72, heads the New People’s Party. She is a former director of Immigration and secretary for Security.
