The “2023 Sands China Macau Internal 10K” race, co-organised by the Sports Bureau (ID) and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, will take place on March 19, ID President Pun Weng Kun said in a speech during a press conference yesterday at The Londoner Macao in Cotai.
Pun pointed out that the race has become another major sports event in Macau, adding he believed that the race will fully play its role in promoting the city and its “sports tourism”, attract runners from different regions and countries to compete in the event, and promote Macau’s economic development.
A statement handed out during the press conference said that the race, which consists of two categories – 10K (kilometres) and Fun Run (5 km) – will start at 7:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. respectively from Sai Van Lake Square and end at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Taipa, adding that a total of 10,000 spots are available for this year’s race, comprising 7,000 for the 10K and 3,000 for the Fun Run.
The statement pointed out that in line with the city’s e-governance development as promoted by the government, those who are interested in competing in the race may register for the 10K and Fun Run from 9 a.m. next Saturday and Sunday respectively via the contest’s official website: www.macao10k.com, or through the newly launched “Macao 10K” mobile app.
The statement underlined that applicants must have a personal online registration account for the “Macau International 10K” or “Macau International Marathon”. It added that those who do not have an account can register a new account on the race’s official website, after which they can log into the signup system during the registration period.
Pun told reporters after the press conference that runners from the mainland and Kenya would be invited to compete in the race.
The total cash prizes amount to about 700,000 patacas, according to Pun.
