John Thomson (1837-1921)
Photo taken in 1870
Born in Scotland, John Thomson was a photographer, geologist, explorer and writer. He was also well known as a photographer who travelled to the Far East. In 1870, he took this precious photo of the Ruins of St. Paul’s.
Description:
This image primarily inspired YiiMa to create Ruins of St. Paul’s in the Seasons. In the original photo, two men wearing Chinese traditional garb stand on either side of one of the stone steps’ balustrades, as if they were witnessing the cycles of the world over the centuries.
