A Filipina non-resident worker (NRW) was scammed out of 7,600 patacas when selling her old banknotes, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said at a regular press conference on Monday.

According to the Leng, the victim reported that she saw a post on social media about “buying old banknotes at a high price” and then contacted the “buyer” who agreed to buy nine of her 5,000 old South Korean won banknotes for 45,000 patacas.

A won at today’s prices is 1 to .0064 patacas.

According to Leng, the victim was asked to pay administrative fees such as “government agency fees” and “taxes” last Thursday, and the “buyer” provided a US address to send the old banknotes to.

According to Leng, the victim transferred 7,600 patacas to the “buyer’s” bank account. However, after the victim transferred the money, the “buyer”, who said he or she would pay the next day, could no longer be contacted by the victim.

The victim then reported the case to the police.
