Macau’s 6 resort operators earn 61 Five-Star awards from Forbes Travel Guide

Macau’s six integrated resort (IR) operators have earned a combined 61 Five-Star awards in the 2023 Forbes Travel Guide (FTG), eight more than in 2022.

FTG announced the awards on Wednesday.

The FTG website notes that Macau has surpassed London this year as the city with the most Five-Star awarded hotels in the world. The six IRs have issued separate statements on their wins.


Melco

Melco Resorts & Entertainment pointed out that it received a total of 17 Five-Star awards this year across the company’s hotels, restaurants and spas in its properties including City of Dreams, Studio City, Altira Macau, and City of Dreams Manila.

The statement quoted Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho Yau-lung as saying “The accolade highlights Melco’s continued dedication to providing guests with exceptional hospitality across our Hotels, Restaurants and Spas”.

“While pandemic-related challenges have indeed been felt over the past few years, we are ready to welcome back the steady influx of tourists to our global resort properties by further enhancing Melco’s signature culture of service excellence with dedication and commitment”, Ho added.



Wynn Macau & Wynn Palace

Wynn Resorts won a total of 15 Five-Star FTG awards this year, with Wynn Macau winning eight, while Wynn Palace in Cotai garnered seven.

The company pointed out that Wynn Macau in Nape is the only IR worldwide with eight FTG Five-Star awards, while Wynn Palace in Cotai has the most FTG Five-Star restaurants “of any individual resort” worldwide.

The company’s statement quoted Wynn Macau, Limited Chief Operating Officer Frederic Luvisutto as saying: “This continued recognition of our commitment to excellence reflects the effort and dedication of our people, who are the foundation of our success”.

Luvisutto added: “We are proud to have maintained an unprecedented position with the multiple awards we have received, and this recognition continues to inspire all of us to provide the unparalleled guest experience that we are known for globally”.


The Londoner Macao

The Londoner Macao announced that The Londoner Hotel and Londoner Court both achieved FTG’s Five-Star ratings within the first year of operation.

Moreover, The Londoner Macao emphasised that The Grand Suites at Four Seasons and The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Macao were again awarded the FTG Five-Star award, while Cantonese restaurant Zi Yat Heen won the award for the first time.

Sands China Ltd. Chief Operating Officer Grant Chum Kwan Lock said: “Our two world-class, all-suite hotels within The Londoner Macao exemplify Sands China’s commitment to elevating the luxury resort experience through design excellence and bespoke hospitality.”

Chum added that along with the award for the Grand Suites at the Four Seasons, the accolades for their newly launched hotels “acknowledge the contribution of our team members, who are passionate and dedicated to providing truly memorable experiences to our guests.”


Grand Lisboa Palace & G​rand Lisboa

SJM Resorts’ newly opened Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) garnered a total of five Five-Star FTG awards, while Grand Lisboa hotel won four. The awards recognised both properties’ hotel, restaurant and spa destinations.

The company underlined that GLP overall received a total of 25 Forbes Stars in its first year.

SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu-fung said: “It is a noteworthy accomplishment for the new Grand Lisboa Palace to receive all Five-Star ratings from Forbes Travel Guide in its first rating year.”

Ho added: “We are also overjoyed that Grand Lisboa has been awarded four consecutive years with quadruple Forbes Five-Star recognition. These accolades serve as a testament to our team members’ ongoing efforts to elevate guests’ experience”.


Galaxy Hotel

Galaxy Macau stressed that it won a total of eight Five-Star FTG awards, while Galaxy Hotel was listed as a Forbes Five-Star hotel for the first time.

Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau and The Ritz-Carlton, Macau also once again received Five-Star hotel awards, while 8½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA attained FTG’s Five-Star restaurant status for the first time. Lai Heen, Banyan Tree Spa Macau, and The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Macau also retained their Five-Star restaurant and Five-Star spa ratings.

Galaxy Entertainment Group’s Chief Operating Officer Kevin Kelley was quoted in the statement as saying: “Our team has been dedicated to providing state-of-the-art facilities and distinctive services to our guests throughout the years, winning over the recognition of guests and renowned industrial professionals with our unique Asian Heart service philosophy.


MGM

MGM pointed out that it garnered seven Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Awards this year.

The company said that its Emerald Tower, the Skylofts and MGM COTAI’s Sichuanese restaurant Five Foot Road and Cantonese Restaurant won four five-star awards for the second year in a row.

MGM MACAU in Nape also won the five-star honour for the eighth consecutive year, while spa concept Tria at both properties received the award for the fourth consecutive year.

MGM President and Chief Operating Officer Hubert Wang Zhiqi said that the awards “attest to our long-standing excellence of operation, and reinforce our devotion to offering our valuable guests with diversified, top-notch service and facilities.
