The Macau Government Tourism Office restarted its “Experience Macao, Unlimited” caravan roadshow across the Greater Bay Area (GBA) with its first post-pandemic stop in Guangzhou which took place over the weekend, aiming to attract residents from cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau GBA to travel and splash out in Macau, expand Macau’s source of tourists, and boost the recovery of the city’s tourism industry, according to an MGTO statement on Saturday.

The opening ceremony of the third stop of the roadshow was held on Saturday in Beijing Road Pedestrian Street in Guangzhou, the statement said.

The statement quoted MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes as saying she believed that with the resumption of “people-to-people exchanges” between the mainland, Hong Kong and Macau, tourists in the GBA would significantly increase their willingness to visit Macau, adding she hoped that through the launch of a two-way promotional campaign both offline and online, Guangzhou residents participating in the roadshow would be able to feel the unique charm of “tourism+” in Macau in advance, and then decide to visit the city.

During the roadshow, the statement said, a caravan was set up in Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, and an avatar stage was used for performance and audience interaction, with an on-site interactive area featuring a photography-spot-themed background, graffiti wall, interactive exhibition hall, game booths, parent-child workshops and a light mapping performance, adding that Macau’s six gaming operators also set up booths at the roadshow, which was attended by the mascot of Macau tourism “Mak Mak” interacting with participants and for them to take photos, enabling them to experience Macau from multiple perspectives.

According to the statement, starting this month, MGTO will work with the city’s six gaming operators, mainland e-commerce platforms and online travel agencies (OTAs) to visit the remaining six GBA cities in Guangdong province, comprising Dongguan, Foshan, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Shenzhen and Zhaoqing, so as to promote interaction between Macau and other cities in the GBA.

The roadshow, which was held in Zhuhai and Zhongshan last year, had been suspended due to the local COVID-19 outbreak in June.

The GBA comprises the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau and nine cities in Guangdong – Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan, and Zhuhai.
