A male civil servant working for the Transport Bureau (DSAT) has recently been arrested for taking upskirt photos of a female passerby in a short skirt walking along Avenida de Venceslau de Morais, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Friday.
The spokesperson also said that the suspect in his sixties is surnamed Kuan.
According to the spokesperson, the Public Security Police received a report from a local woman on Tuesday that when she was walking along the avenue earlier that day, she saw Kuan following the victim in her twenties and putting his mobile phone close to her buttocks, so she immediately stepped forward to warn the victim and stop Kuan before calling the police.
Under questioning by PSP officers who arrived at the scene, Kuan admitted to committing the offence, but refused to elaborate, the spokesperson said, adding that Kuan had deleted the videos and photos on the phone before the officers arrived. The Public Security Police seized Kuan’s phone and tried to restore the photos and videos, the spokesperson said at the time of the press conference.
After scrutinising the citywide CCTV camera systems, the spokesperson said, the Public Security Police discovered that Kuan had started to follow the victim from the footbridge of Estrada da Bela Vista. The spokesperson also said that Kuan followed the victim from outside the Macao Daily News Building to Rua Nova da Areia Preta, and that he took sneak photos of her whenever she crossed the road.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
