Macao Orchestra Company Limited said in two separate statements recently that the Macao Orchestra (OM) will be performing two concerts in early March – both conducted by its local-born principal guest conductor Lio Kuok Man.

The first performance “Fantasy of Four Seasons – Yu-Chien Tseng and Macao Orchestra” features violin soloist Tseng Yu-Chien from Taiwan, the top prize winner of the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition who had collaborated with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the London Philharmonic, the statement said, adding that Tseng’s first violin recital, a sold-out concert in 2016, was also in Macau.

Slated to start on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium, the orchestra will present Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7, while Tseng will perform “Violin Concerto No. 2 – The American Four Seasons” by Philip Glass, the statement said.

The second performance “The Enchanting Flute: Jasmine Choi and Macao Orchestra” will also be held at the Grand Auditorium, at 8 p.m. on March 10, featuring South Korean flautist Jasmine Choi who will perform a transcribed version of the “Violin Concerto in D minor” by Aram Khachaturian. According to the second statement, Choi was the first Korean musician in the Vienna Symphony and served as its former principal flute player.

The orchestra will also present Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade under Lio’s baton.

The ticket prices of both performances are the same at 300, 250, 200 and 150 patacas, with various discounts. To purchase tickets, call 2855 5555, or visit www.macauticket.com.
