Members of the government-appointed Central District Social Services Consultative Committee urged the Housing Bureau (IH) yesterday to evaluate the function of the Arbitration Centre for Building Management Affairs as it had not solved any disputes since it was established in 2011.

According to the bureau’s webpage, the centre aims to promote mediation and arbitration and provide a convenient way to solve disputes. It also aims to provide an alternative way of solving disputes instead of going to court. The service is provided free of charge.

Deputy Convenor Veronica Kuong Iok Kao made the remarks to reporters at the Central District Residents Service Centre after the closed-door meeting of the committee, saying that according to the bureau’s representative who attended the meeting, arbitration has to be agreed by the involved parties before it can proceed.
