The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday that it is collaborating with Madame Tussauds Hong Kong to debut wax figures modelled after eight accomplished racers at the Macau Grand Prix Museum in late March.

The Macau Grand Prix (MGP) is slated to celebrate its 70th anniversary this year. The statement noted that the wax figures represent the first marketing project between the local government and Madame Tussauds.

The museum recently ran a game titled “Racer Wax Figures: ‘Guess Who?’” that invited museumgoers to guess the identities of the drivers that the figures were modelled on by February 28 to celebrate their upcoming debut, the statement added.

The statement said that the identities of four of the racers were recently revealed to be John Macdonald, Ron Haslam, Ayrton Senna da Silva and Sebastian Vettel, adding that the other four drivers and lucky draw results will be revealed later on.

An inaugural ceremony for the wax figures will also be hosted in late March, the statement noted.

Madame Tussauds is a wax museum founded in 1835 by French wax sculptor Marie Tussaud in London, spawning similar museums in major cities around the world. While it used to be spelt as “Madame Tussaud’s”; the apostrophe is no longer used. Madame Tussauds is a major tourist attraction in many cities, displaying the waxworks of famous and historical figures, as well as popular film and television characters, according to Wikipedia.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Tuesdays. For more information and ticketing, one can visit mgpm.macaotourism.gov.mo/en.
