The Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) said in a statement yesterday that over 14,000 attendees are projected to take part in annual enterprise and academic conferences slated to be held in Macau from this month through April.

The statement noted that a large enterprise recently held its annual conference in Macau which was attended by nearly 2,000 business visitors from the mainland. The statement did not identify the enterprise.

Macau is now again offering a string of “cultural experience activities”, according to the statement, such as digital art installations in integrated resorts, bungee jumping and visits to famous stores in the local community. The statement underlined that this has enabled visitors to experience the city’s culture and delicacies, which has also stimulated consumption in Macau.

The statement said that the conference organiser of the unnamed enterprise recognised Macau as being able to host large conventions and exhibitions, adding that reasons for choosing the city include its international-standard software and hardware facilities, its efficient and friendly service staff and the integrated hotels and resorts that offer MICE venues, accommodation and leisure and recreational activities.

MICE stands for Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

The statement said that, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC), the city hosted 460 MICE events last year. The government-run institute noted it hopes that Macau will stage 700-1,000 MICE events this year.

IPIM will work with the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, relevant industries, and integrated tourism and leisure enterprises to attract and bid for international or regional MICE events to be held in Macau, the statement said.

There will also be efforts to get more “multinationals” to host conferences, corporate summits, among others, in the city, the statement pointed out.
