Taipa and Coloane Community Service Consultative Council deputy convener Ng Hong Kei quoted Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) officials as saying that the office will soon meet with its counterparts in the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin about promoting Macau-Hengqin tourism.

Ng made the remarks during yesterday’s press briefing after the council’s regular closed-door meeting with MGTO and Economic and Technology Development Bureau (DSEDT) officials, discussing joint Macau-Hengqin tourism projects and consumer stimulation plans to boost Macau’s economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ng quoted the MGTO officials as saying that the meeting in Hengqin would mainly focus on facilitating more convenient customs measures, such as introducing a special visa for overseas visitors to make multiple trips between Hengqin and Macau, but noted that there is no detailed timetable at present.

Ng quoted the MGTO officials as pointing out that over 1.6 million people visited Macau last month, mainly from the mainland and Hong Kong, and that the government will extend its funding scheme to encourage travel agents to attract Taiwan and overseas visitors to Macau this month.

Some councillors asked if the government was planning to conduct a new round of financial support measures. Another deputy convener, Choi Seng Hon quoted a DSEDT officials as saying that the government would conduct a scientific analysis of the relevant views and further study the issue.
