Members of the Northern District Community Service Consultative Council urged the government yesterday to improve its communication with local travel agencies to reduce the adverse impact caused to residents in the northern district when tourist coaches take visitors to shops only catering for tour groups.

The council’s deputy convenor, Ho Chong Chun, and council member Chio Lan Ieng briefed reporters after a closed-door meeting at the Government Service Centre in Areia Preta.

Yesterday’s focus of the government-appointed council’s regular meeting was on the rising number of shops only catering for tour groups and the many tourist coaches ferrying visitors to the shops in the northern district, resulting in severe traffic congestion.
