A jobless man in his fifties was arrested last Friday for pretending to be an official of the Transport Bureau (DSAT) to cheat two women out of 600 patacas in total, Public Security Police (PSP) Leong Chi Seng said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leong, the local suspect is surnamed Kuan.

The Public Security Police received reports from the two victims in their sixties last Friday that they had been “fined” 300 patacas each by a man claiming to be a DSAT official in Avenida do Nordeste for jaywalking, i.e., pedestrians crossing the road “illegally”. Suspecting something was wrong, the duo reported the case to the police.

After scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system, PSP officers identified Kuan as the suspect and caught him at 9 a.m. last Friday on Rua Seis do Bairro Iao Hon, Leong said, adding that Kuan admitted that he had pretended to be a “law enforcement officer of the Transport Bureau” with a Macau Grand Prix Museum Pass earlier that day, and used a notice that is issued by a lower court to fine the duo 300 patacas each.

Kuan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of fraud and usurpation of official functions, according to Leong.
