The Australian Chamber of Commerce and British Chamber of Commerce jointly hosted a lunch and panel themed “Embrace Equity” on Wednesday at The St. Regis Macau for International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is annually celebrated on March 8, according to Wikipedia.

The speakers of the panel featured Director of the United Nations University Research Institute in Macau, Jingbo Huang (aka Huang Jingbo); local palliative care nurse and certified dementia care planner Joanna Tam Kuai In; and M Restaurant Group founder and Chief Executive Officer Michelle Garnaut.

A statement from The St. Regis Macao noted that AustCham Chairman and Multi-Property Vice President of Sheraton Grand Macao and The St. Regis Macao, Janet McNab “acknowledged that gender equity is a fundamental human right, and a solution to some of our greatest global challenges”.

The statement quoted McNab as saying that “there is a gender problem that needs to be fixed, and whilst the battle is far from over, days like today help us remind ourselves that the challenges and obstacles that women face will always evolve and we need input from women if we are to overcome them”.

She added: “Macau is home to so many women in positions of leadership – and it’s an honour to know and work with so many as they build, innovate and lead every day. Despite the challenges and ever-changing business landscape, we need to lead by example, sustain and build on the gains made in senior leadership and strengthen efforts at every level within the organisation”.

Meanwhile, the event raised proceeds of 70,000 patacas, which will be donated to the Good Shepherd Sisters in support of their work, the statement said, adding that they uplift the “welfare of women and girls, especially those marginalised by society”.
