The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday that it hosted Macau’s “first post-pandemic international familiarisation group” that comprised influencers and media from Thailand for a four-day trip.

The statement noted that Macau registered over 150,000 visitor arrivals from Thailand in 2019, adding that it ranked as the “10th greatest contributor of visitors” to the city.

The group arrived on Monday by AirAsia and comprised 20 delegates, according to the statement, which included five travel and gourmet key opinion leaders (KOLs) and programme hosts of four mainstream television stations from Thailand.

The group visited the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Macau, the tourism facilities of several integrated resorts, the Macau Grand Prix Museum, among others.

The statement added that the group also sampled the city’s culinary delights and explored different districts in depth. Moreover, the group also explored places in Taipa and Coloane such as the Old Iec Long Firecracker Factory Site, Taipa Houses, Rua do Cunha, and the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier.

The statement underlined that the KOLs and TV stations from Thailand have garnered over 30.98 million followers, noting that MGTO hopes that their posts online and TV travelogues about travel in Macau can “induce trending topics” about Macau in Thailand.

Meanwhile, more than 20 travel trade delegates from Thailand are slated to visit the city from Monday through Thursday, according to the statement. The delegates will attend a destination presentation seminar on Macau to explore business opportunities with their counterparts from local hotels, travel agencies, integrated tourism resorts and tourism-related facilities.

The statement added that they aim to design tourism products for travellers from Thailand and create partnerships.

The statement noted that MGTO will step up its marketing efforts with the successive return of flights between Macau and Thailand, as well as strive for the diversification of visitor source markets.
