A team from the University of Macau (UM) State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI and Institute of Microelectronics (IME) recently presented its research findings at the 70th International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) held in San Francisco, according to a UM statement last Thursday, received by The Macau Post Daily yesterday.
The conference took place on February 19-23.
A total of 15 papers from the local university were accepted at this year’s conference, ranking the university at the top of state-of-the-art microelectronics research. In addition, IME Director Rui Martins received the honour of Top ISSCC Paper Contributor between 1954 and 2023. Together, these achievements reflect UM’s international recognition and its leading position in the field, the statement said.
A total of 198 papers were accepted at this year’s conference, out of a total of 629 paper submissions from around the world. UM contributed 15 papers as the primary affiliation as well as two co-authored papers. In line with the theme of this year’s conference, ‘Building on 70 Years of Innovation in Solid-State Circuit Design’, the papers submitted by UM cover topics such as data conversion, wireless communications, power conversion, and voice-signal processing, which are all associated with emerging research areas, including Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data. Their contents present innovative ideas for circuits in bulk-CMOS technologies. Members of the UM team who attended this year’s conference included Prof. Martins, IME Associate Professors Lu Yan and Chan Chi Hang, and a number of UM researchers and postgraduate students, according to the statement.
At the ceremony for the 70th anniversary of the ISSCC, Prof Martins received the honour of Top ISSCC Paper Contributor between 1954 and 2023. Shao Haijun, a post-doctoral researcher in IME, received the Pre-doctoral Achievement Award from the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society in recognition of his outstanding research achievements in microelectronics. In addition, three PhD and Master’s students of microelectronics from UM were invited to give presentations in the Student Research Previews section, and three of the papers from UM were selected for onsite demonstration, the statement underlined.
Organised by the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society, the ISSCC is the most prestigious international conference in the field of electronics, with a rigorous paper selection process. It is also the world’s largest and highest-level conference on solid-state circuits held annually, which showcases the latest global trends in solid-state circuit research and development. The UM team’s trip to this year’s event was co-sponsored by the Science and Development Fund of Macau and the university, according to the statement.
