Foreign Minister Wang Yi was spotted in Sao Lazaro district yesterday with Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) President Guilherme Ung Vai Meng who showed him some of the exhibitions in the area.
Wang is in the city as part of a delegation, headed by Premier Li Keqiang, to attend the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, which will be held today.
With a small entourage, Wang and Ung visited cultural art spaces Albergue SCM and 10 Fantasia.
An informed source told The Macau Post Daily yesterday that Wang then visited the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mandarin’s House.
According to the source, Wang was keen to know more about Macau’s cultural and creative industries, as well as the city’s cultural preservation work.
While Wang was in Sao Lazaro district, passers-by said they didn’t realise they had just walked past the nation’s top diplomat.
“I didn’t recognise him,” a visitor from the mainland said, while others stopped to take photos after realising it was Wang, one of the central government’s globally best-known officials. Wang is known to be highly respected by his foreign counterparts.
Wang, 63, arrived in Macau yesterday morning.
