The Cultural Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that it will provide two new busking locations, one at the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory site in Taipa and the other outside the Macau Science Centre (MSC) in Nape, starting on Friday.
The old and new locations are available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
According to the statement, the extension of the busking locations aims to enhance Macau’s cultural atmosphere and provide more performing platforms for local artists, as well as to promote quality street performances.
Since 2016, the bureau has provided five busking locations, namely Anim’Arte NAM VAN, Taipa Houses, Mount Fortress Garden, Barra Square and the Village of Our Lady in Ka Ho, for performers involved in the performing arts, visual arts and creative crafts.
As of last month, more than 1,200 local artists had applied to perform in the busking programme, and more than 170,000 people had watched the performances, the statement noted.
Performers should register through the onsite registration counter before they are assigned the busking location by the bureau the statement said, adding that the busking location at the former Iec Long Firecracker Factory site can only be used by one group of buskers at a time, while the one in front of the Macau Science Centre could accommodate up to three groups at a time.
Individuals interested in the busking programme can apply online through the bureau’s official website www.icm.gov.mo/busking or go to the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building to apply in person, or call 8399 6699 during office hours.
