A female Vietnamese non-resident worker (NRW) has been arrested for shoplifting, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said in a regular press conference yesterday.

The 32-year-old suspect surnamed Nguyen is a cleaner.

According to Cheong, on Monday morning when Nguyen was shopping in a supermarket on Avenida de Horta e Costa, a staff member of the supermarket noticed that Nguyen put some goods in her bag, after which Nguyen paid for the items in her shopping basket but did not pay for the goods in her bag, and then left.

Afterwards, Nguyen was intercepted by the staff member who reported the case to the police. Police officers arrested Nguyen at the scene and found items worth a total of around 700 patacas in her bag, including a bottle of wine, hair conditioner, and some meat.

Under questioning, Nguyen claimed that she had simply “forgotten” to pay.

Nguyen has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Cheong.
