A 10-year-old boy was hit by a radio taxi near Avenida de Venceslau de Morais in Areia Preta district last night, the authorities said.
According to statements from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and the Public Security Police (PSP), the accident occurred at around 8 p.m. near Mong Sin Building, a social rental housing estate.
Firemen and paramedics rushed to the scene where they freed the boy who was partially trapped under the taxi, after which he was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment.
According to the statements, the boy suffered fractures to his left thigh. There were no updates about his latest condition as of late last night.
The male taxi driver passed a breathalyser test, the PSP statement said.
The police have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
