A local jobless man in his thirties was scammed out of HK$10,000 for a fake gambling course he purchased online, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference on Monday.
According to Lei, the victim discovered an online platform last year that claimed to teach gambling techniques. After watching several videos, he became convinced that the owner of the channel was a gambling master and decided to pay HK$10,000 earlier this month in tuition fees in exchange for access to online tutorials on how to gamble and win.
However, after watching the first class, the victim suspected that the games were rigged, as the scammer always won easily using his supposed “techniques.” The victim then demanded an in-person demonstration, but the scammer refused. When he attempted to get a partial refund of the tuition fees, he lost contact with the scammer and decided to report the case to the police.
