The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), in conjunction with the Public Security Police (PSP), sealed seven flats suspected of providing accommodation illegally between January 1 and this past Sunday, according to an MGTO statement yesterday.
Law No.3/2022, which amended Law No.3/2010, on the “Prohibition of Providing Illegal Accommodation”, has been in effect since April last year.
The statement noted that from January 1 to March 26, a total of 354 inspections were carried out at the city’s border checkpoints, Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal and the local airport, as well as at different tourist attractions and shopping spots, during which four unlicensed tour guides were nabbed at the Barrier Gate checkpoint. The statement added that the four cases have been reported to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Beijing.
In order to maintain a good image of Macau’s tourism, according to the statement, MGTO has requested travel agencies to ensure that their coach drivers observe traffic regulations and safety, pay close attention to turning off the engine when parked, remind passengers to pay more attention to their personal conduct and hygiene, avoid blocking street or building entrances near the places that they visit, and not to park illegally.
The statement underlined that all local tour guides are required to always wear their professional IDs during work.
