The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has hosted 14 representatives of top travel agencies from South Korea for their first post-pandemic familiarisation trip and networking seminar since the easing of COVID-19 pandemic border restrictions, MGTO said in a statement yesterday.

South Korea was ranked as Macau’s “top international source market” before the COVID-19 pandemic, the statement noted, with Macau having logged 740,000 visitor arrivals from the country in 2019. The trip and networking seminar were arranged in the hope that visitor arrivals from South Korea will return to the number-one position among Macau’s foreign visitors.

The four-day trip, which started on Sunday, covered “tourism +” elements and saw the representatives visit a range of attractions and integrated resorts, according to the statement.

The statement said that the delegation also went to the “Visiting the Ruins of St. Paul’s in Space and Time - Exhibition of Virtual Reality at the Ruins of St. Paul’s” and got to see the newly unveiled wax figures of eight renowned racers and riders at the Macau Grand Prix Museum on the launch day.

MGTO also organised a Macau-Korea travel trade networking seminar yesterday, the statement added, noting that around 80 representatives from local hotels, travel agencies, integrated tourism resorts and tourism-related facilities discussed business opportunities with South Korean trade delegates.

Tourism products for South Korean travellers were designed during the seminar, while the possibilities of cooperation were also explored, the statement said.

The statement underlined that MGTO has increased marketing efforts and the promotion of source market diversification with the return of passenger flights between Macau and South Korea.
