A mainland overstayer has been arrested for resisting arrest and injuring a police officer, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The 34-year-old suspect surnamed Hou told the police that he’s jobless. He had been overstaying in Macau since August 31 last year.

According to Leong, a police officer saw Hou acting suspiciously while on patrol in Avenida da Amizade on Saturday. Hou immediately fled when the officer approached him, Leong said, adding that another PSP officer chased him on a motorcycle.

Leong noted that during the chase, a police officer injured his left elbow, and the rearview mirror of the motorcycle was damaged. Under questioning, Hou said he fled because he was afraid of being caught for overstaying.

Hou has been transferred to a Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of disobedience and property damage, Leong said.
