Three people were arrested for their involvement in fake employment, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspects are a retired local resident surnamed Lio in his seventies; Lio’s wife, a casino dealer surnamed Lao in her thirties  and Lao’s former colleague and friend – a mainlander in her thirties surnamed Xu.

Lai said that PSP officers last month found Xu’s non-resident worker (NRW) permit to be suspicious and summoned the trio to a police station for questioning on Friday.

According to Lai, under questioning the trio confessed that last year Xu had asked Lao to obtain an NRW permit (colloquially known as “blue card”) for her so that she could frequently come to Macau for shopping and gambling. Lao then asked Lio to hire Xu as a purported carer.

The three claimed that the fake employment did not involve any pecuniary benefits.

The trio have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing document forgery charges, according to Lai.
